Summer

With the warm weather, comes many things you need to look out for when you are with your dog outside. Going for a ride is one thing your dog loves to do. If you are running to the store quick and wish to take your dog with you for the ride, just remember that your car can get quite hot really quickly. If a dog is left in the car with no air flow, your dog could get a heat stroke, heat exhaustion, brain damage, or even pass away. You would love to take your dog with you for a ride and some dogs love to hang their head out the window when driving for air, why wouldn't you put the windows down when you have stopped your car. There are things you could buy also, if your dog likes to hang his head out the window for a nice sniff. Make sure your dog is buckled in. There are seat belts designed just for a dog. Last thing you want is your dog jumping out or falling out of your car. There are sunglasses you could buy also for your dog. Make sure you get ones that fit snuggly  so they do not fall off and sunglasses could protect your dogs eyes if a bug flies directly at them. Taking your dog for a nice ride is fun, but if you have a pick-up truck, do not put your dog in the back. In some states, this is illegal and could be very dangerous for your dog. If your car is hit, your dog could be thrown out of the truck. If you stop short, the same thing could happen. When working on your lawn or garden, be aware that some fertilizers and some plants could be very harmful to your dog. With the summer, comes ticks, fleas and mosquitoes. Check with your vet for the right preventative for them. With going out to parks or traveling with your dog, your dog might run away. Make sure your dog has an ID tag on so that they may be brought back home safely. Your dog might love to jump into the pool. You need to prevent your dog from going into the pool when you are not around. Anything could happen when you are supervising. If your dog loves to go swimming, make sure you are around and allow your dog to go into the pool so they could cool down. Make sure the nails are cut on your dog so your dog will not be making rips into the liner of your pool or holes into a inflatable pool you might have put out for them. Make sure their bowl is always filled with cold water because in the summer they might drink alot more. If your dog is an outside dog, always check the water bowl, because water will evaporate. With the weather getting warmer, you and your dog could have a great summer with some tips to make it safe.
